Vanilla ’66, our soundtrack album for for imaginary movies continues to grow with “Meet the Merseybirds.” By 1966 several impulses were colliding in pop culture— bands wanting to be just like the Beatles (and usually falling well short), professional studio musicians trying to adapt to the new sounds, and psychedelia slipping into the scene for the first time.

The Merseybirds are a fictional band in a fictional film trying to cash in on the Fab action: mod clothes, electric guitars (without cords), chonky big glasses, paisley, and goofy bowl haircuts. Will the Merseybirds defeat the villains whilst making laughingstocks of the older generation? Find out! And watch out for that gorilla!

This song is another soundtrack to an imaginary movie from the titular year, and we will release each individually until complete (at which point a CD or vinyl album will be released).
